Cancer of the skin is not as rare as it used to be.  Today, there are a few types of skin cancer and each one requires clinical care by either a dermatologist or a physician.  Basal cell carcinoma is one of the three most common types of skin cancer seen today and can be diagnosed as small fleshy bumps on the neck, head or hands.

These bumps can be totally flat and also found on the trunk of your body. Ninety percent of skin cancer in the US is this basal cell type.  Melanoma is another common type of skin cancer that is found in the pigment cells, those that give color to our skin.  This type is the rarest and generally found on adults.  This is the most virulent form of skin cancer which is also known as malignant melanoma or cutaneous melanoma.

A third type of skin cancer is one that is noticed as red, scaly patches on the skin.  This is the squamous call carcinoma. On Caucasians, this is the second most common type of skin cancer.  Those people with fair skin are most likely to develop this type and if treated properly, all three of they types show a ninety-five percent cure rate.
